About Me
Doug Sweaney Herrick, LMHC, MA
Seattle, Washington
I often describe therapy as a kind of laboratory. What happens between us reflects how you relate to others, to pressure, and to yourself.
Paying attention to those moments helps us understand long standing patterns and experiment with new ways of being.
How I Work
My approach blends insight with action. I am interested in both the why and the how.
Sessions tend to feel engaged and conversational. We will think together, challenge assumptions, and build clarity over time. I pay close attention to relationships, family dynamics, and the emotional undercurrents that shape behavior. Humor is welcome, especially when it helps loosen shame or rigidity.
I especially enjoy working with people who are curious, introspective, and able to reflect on themselves, even when it feels uncomfortable.
My Story
Athletics have been a formative part of my life. I played soccer through college and professionally, and I continue to coach at the elite level. Sport has been a place of belonging, discipline, stress, and growth for me, which deeply informs how I work with athletes and high performing individuals.
Outside of therapy, I enjoy running, backpacking, and spending time outdoors. I live in Seattle with my spouse and our corgi, Boris and cat, Misty. I also enjoy reading when my attention allows.
